How To Get There – Unlike other countries outside of the U.S., Costa Rica is quite close and convenient when traveling from the U.S. Just 2.5 miles from Miami and 5 from New York, the U.S. makes up almost 50% of the tourists visiting the country today. Getting there is quite simple as you can even get non stop flights from virtually anywhere in the U.S.

Cost – Though not considered an ultra expensive destination, during certain times of the year it can get costly. Consider planning early or traveling in off season if visiting its more popular regions.

Know Your Limitations – Though some travel here just for the beach, most others are out for an adventure. Remember, a trek through an “actual” rainforest or up the side of an 8 thousand foot volcano is not for the unprepared.

Know How To Communicate – It will be helpful if you have some knowledge of Spanish though most Costa Ricans also know at least some English.

Consider Registering With STEP To Enter – You must present a valid passport, valid for 90 days past your arrival as well as a ticket out of the country as well. You must also be able to prove that you can financially afford to spend at least $100 per month while visiting as well.
