Tips For Travel and Travel Information About Costa Rica

A relatively small country at just over 19,700 square miles, it is big in adventure. Diverse in ecology including pristine first growth and cloud forests, rainforests, mountainous, active volcanoes, and oceans, the adventurers can't go wrong with a trip to the country of Costa Rica.

Despite its “relatively” small size, choosing to visit Costa Rica requires planning as the diversity as well as the terrain, may make getting around or choosing where to go more difficult. Whether choosing a mountain adventure at a national park, or staying on the coast and enjoying a beach type excursion, there is much to explore.

Like travel to all other countries, planning is more than just figuring out what to see and do. It is also about what to expect, issues relating to your safety, what is required, where and who you should contact and other issues in regards to your safety, and also like traveling to other countries, the government offers travelers destination specific information to help you get there and get around. We have compiled a list of some of the most helpful tips you may want to consider when you plan your next trip to Costa Rica. Whether traveling for the first time or the 10th time, take advantage of the following tips to help you from Tradewinds Vacations.

How To Get There – Unlike other countries outside of the U.S., Costa Rica is quite close and convenient when traveling from the U.S. Just 2.5 miles from Miami and 5 from New York, the U.S. makes up almost 50% of the tourists visiting the country today. Getting there is quite simple as you can even get non stop flights from virtually anywhere in the U.S.

Cost – Though not considered an ultra expensive destination, during certain times of the year it can get costly. Consider planning early or traveling in off season if visiting its more popular regions.

Know Your Limitations – Though some travel here just for the beach, most others are out for an adventure. Remember, a trek through an “actual” rainforest or up the side of an 8 thousand foot volcano is not for the unprepared.

Know How To Communicate – It will be helpful if you have some knowledge of Spanish though most Costa Ricans also know at least some English.

Consider Registering With STEP To Enter – You must present a valid passport, valid for 90 days past your arrival as well as a ticket out of the country as well. You must also be able to prove that you can financially afford to spend at least $100 per month while visiting as well.

How to Plan the Perfect Honeymoon Getaway

Your honeymoon is an occasion that you will never forget for all the right reasons.  This is the perfect time to take that honeymoon that perhaps you never got, or maybe you just want a second honeymoon.  Rather than spending this time in a hotel room, why not opt for a vacation rental instead?  There are vacation rentals all over the world, such as cottages, condos, and villas.  For the ultimate experience, consider your choices wisely. Take a look at some helpful tips to help you choose the right vacation for you. Don’t be disappointed when you travel. Plan carefully and enjoy the vacation of your dreams with tips from Tradewinds Vacations.

The very first thing that should be considered is your budget.  Deciding how much you want to or can afford to spend is your first order of business.  To help with this, you can create a data spreadsheet to include things, such as traveling expenses, food, shopping, lodging, and anything else you can think of that you will incur as an expense on your trip.  Decide on a price range within your budget for your lodging.  Do some research to see what is available that you can afford.  At online travel sites you can find packages for honeymooners.  Look for all-inclusive deals that may be within your budget.

Next, based on your research, decide where you would like to spend your blissful honeymoon.  If there are certain attractions that you want to see, find a rental within that vicinity.  As an example, choose a beach house if you are going for a summer trip.  If you want to go hiking, choose a cottage or a cabin.  Think about the level of privacy that you want to have.  If you want peace and quiet, do not choose a rental that is in a downtown business area.

Finally, for your peace of mind, always be sure to check the rental contract before you sign or pay.  The contract should include what the landlord’s responsibilities are and what are your own.  It should also include details about the payment terms.  Also, find out if there is a cancellation policy beforehand, as well, because emergencies do come up and you do not want to be out that money if you can help it at all.  Taking your honeymoon will be so much more enjoyable if you follow these tips beforehand.

Lancaster Pennsylvania Accommodations

When you are seeking accommodations in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, it can be hard to decide where to stay.  There are an abundance of great hotels and rentals in Lancaster.  For example, a lot of people truly love the Lancaster Arts Hotel.  It has a quaint, yet slightly quirky type of atmosphere.  Staying at a hotel is a great option over staying with friends.  Camping can be a good choice, too, if you need to save on accommodations to be able to afford the many attractions you will want to see.  Wherever you choose to stay in Lancaster, it is a good idea to make sure that it is close to all of the amenities that you came to Lancaster for.

When you are doing your research on Lancaster hotels, be sure to pay close attention to the different amenities offered and the location of the hotel.  For example, if you are traveling during the summer, you most definitely will want to go to a hotel with a pool; however, you want to look into how well the hotel keeps up on the pool.  They should be clean and well-maintained.  Many places have indoor pools, which is even better.  In addition, you will want to research the little things, such as whether they charge you to use the fridge in your room.  Little expenses can add up to huge bills.  Also, research whether the hotel offers free internet access, as you never know when you may need it.

Finally, you will be happy to find during your research that many of the hotels in downtown Lancaster are very affordable, with many of them costing less than $100 each night.  That said, it makes it easier to figure out things, such as how long you can stay, when you know the price per night up front.

Regardless of where you choose to stay, you will find Lancaster to be a very memorable vacation destination.

As with any other destination, choosing your accommodations is an important aspect of planning your vacation. Whether you choose luxury accommodations or simply a place to rest your head, make sure that you plan the perfect accommodations for you and make the most of your vacation experience. Tradewinds Vacations invites you to explore tips and reviews on travel with us.

Public Transportation

Whether it is a way of life, a choice or simply the most viable option for your travels, the fact remains that millions of people use public transportation everyday around the world. Whether on vacation or a resident of an area, most people find that in some areas which are highly congested, public transportation is not only an option, but actually the best option. For this reason, we invite you to look at this topic about travel with us. Learn the most common complaints, the most common plus's as well as a list of the most well known and perhaps best places in the world to take advantage of this option for travel.

Pros

  • Great for the environment – In areas such as New York or other cities facing issues with smog and pollution, public transportation is doing its part to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Convenient in some areas – Again using New York as an example, getting around New York is almost impossible in a car especially at rush hour. Many New Yorkers' never even own a car as the public transportation is so convenient.
  • Cost effective – Less than gas and certainly less than a taxi ride, bus or train ride are usually one tenth the cost of other types of travel.
  • A great way to “experience” a destination – In cities that rely on public transportation, taking a bus or a train will allow you to spend time with the locals and see the sights from a less touristy perspective.

Cons

  • Germs - Millions of people all in one place and all at one time, you are likely to encounter germs.
  • Restriction of your movement on a schedule – Buses and trains run on schedules and if you miss the ride, then you are obligated to wait for the next one or change your plans.
  • Overcrowding - As this is a major form of transportation in some areas, you will likely be one of many on a ride at any given time. It is good to ride with a friend in situations such as this so you can watch each others backs and avoid thieves.

Top Destinations To Use Public Transportation

  1. New York City
  2. Boston
  3. San Francisco
  4. Portland
  5. Seattle
  6. Chicago

Choosing Your Vacation

You will find, when you decide to begin your quest for the perfect vacation rental, that there are a great many from which to choose.  This can make deciding on one quite difficult.  One of the best ways to decide what is best for you is to take a look at many different rentals and compare them to what is most suitable for your vacation.  Each rental will boast many unique reasons you should stay there.  Deciding on which feature  is best for you and your companions will help you discern which rental will be best for your vacation.

One of the biggest selling points of a vacation rental is its location.  For instance, if you want a luxurious beach holiday, then you will want to seek a beach rental that is located directly on a beach in your chosen destination.  You will want to actually see the property, as many people will try to pass off a home that is five miles from the water as a beach rental.  The same goes for condominium rentals; simply be sure that the rental is in your chosen destination and in the perfect location.

As stated, the different amenities that a rental has often will make or break its “rentability.”  As an example, if you want to cook your own meals while vacationing, then you obviously need a rental that is equipped with a kitchen.  Depending on the number in your party, you will also need to think about bedrooms.  Making sure that everyone is comfortable is the best way to have a memorable vacation.

Finally, when you are choosing vacation rentals, price will definitely come into play.  If you are traveling as part of a large group and can split the cost, you can opt for something larger and a little more expensive; however, if it is just you and your family, your budget plays a role in the size, style, and amenities that you can afford.  Booking your rental well in advance can possibly help you sustain a discount.  Whatever rental you choose, you are sure to have a great vacation while traveling in comfort.

How To Pack Better – Lighten Your Load With These Tips From Tradewinds

We often leave things like packing until the last minute. However, our tendency to grab now and think about it later can lead to certain disaster upon arrival to our destination. Realizing, of course, to late, that we have forgotten many items and have packed items unnecessary to our trip, the only way to avoid this disaster from occurring is to plan early. Take advantage of tips on travel including how you can better pack with tips from Tradewinds Travel Club.

  • TSA rules – If you are planning on taking a portion of your trip by air, knowing the rules and regulations in regards to TSA and your airline will help you plan what to and not to bring with you. TSA offers a website with more detailed information in reference to your carry on luggage. Rules such as 3-1-1 and prohibited items will simplify many of your decisions in regards to your luggage.

  • Toiletries - Creatures of habit, none of us likes to use products for our skin or hair that we are not sure are going to be right for us. For this reason, most everyone packs their own items such as shampoo, gel, face wash, shampoo makeup and other products. If you are planning on traveling light, you will want to learn how to better accomplish this as it can take up much of your valuable space. Instead of packing whole bottles, instead purchase small refillable containers and then fill them with your products. If you traveling with only a carry on, these products must all fit in 1, 1 quart bag and be less than 3 oz to be allowed on the plane.

  • Clothing – This is one of the biggest areas for improvement for many travelers. Rather than packing for space, we pack whole outfits. The problem with this is we are often packing too much. Rather than packing whole outfits, pack shirts, pants/shorts/skirts that will fit with more than one outfit. Color coordinate your whole wardrobe and save space.

  • Extras – Often we simply do not know what we will need. From alarm clocks to towels, bathrobes, or even some of our toiletries, many of these items are offered as amenities as our accommodations making it a waste of space in our bags and taking up extra room. Know more about your accommodations and plan what you can actually leave at home and save space.

  • Valuables – This is less about space and more about being wise. If you luggage is lost or damaged and you have decided to bring a valuable item which is also lost or damaged, the restrictions on baggage claims may lead you to lose out. You may not only not be able to replace the items but may not be able to get the full replacement value either.

Choose carefully and plan ahead for what you bring with you on your next vacation and make better use of your time and money. Become a more informed traveler and learn more about travel with news, advice and tips to help you from your friends at Tradewinds Travel Club.

Your Safety In A New Environment

Travel is about getting to know and embracing other cultures and experiencing as well as enjoying all the amazing and unique features that the world has to offer. Understanding this, you can be sure to be introduced to a host of new things which may or may not be good for your health. Destinations such as the Hawaiian Islands or other Pacific and Caribbean areas are known for their beauty but are also known for their unique and well adapted plants, animals and insects. If you are not from the area, you may be unaware of what to expect or what to do if you encounter such things. For your safety, it is important that you know more about your destination to avoid health risks when you travel.

Tradewinds Travel Club reviews a few of the most common safety tips regarding your travel to some of the worlds most popular destinations for travel and how you can avoid issues and complaints when you travel.

The Ocean – A Top Safety Issue

While the ocean is amazing and great for relaxing and enjoying, it can also be dangerous. A list of the most dangerous issues regarding the ocean and your trip include:

  • Rip Tides – Rip tides and currents are found everywhere and can become safety issues quickly in areas such as the Gulf Coast, the Yucatan Coastline and the Hawaiian Coastline frequently. Understand how to get out of a rip tide before you swim in an area where this may be an issue.
  • Fish/Sea Creatures – Animals in the sea are not out to get you however, if they feel threatened or just don't see you, you may become an unfortunate victim. PAY ATTENTION.
  • Drowning – Even a great swimmer can drown under certain circumstances. Pay attention to your safety and get out if you get tired.

The way to prevent issues regarding these items is to make sure you pay attention to your children, swim only where there are lifeguards present, make sure you are a good swimmer before you go, understand how rip currents work and how to get out of them and also pay attention to lifeguard warnings regarding dangerous creatures in the area.

Sunburn – Vacations are generally spent outside. The sun is both welcoming but can be dangerous if the right precautions are not taken. You need to wear sunscreen at all times outside, even if it is overcast. If you are in water, make sure to wear waterproof sunscreen and apply int frequently. A bad sunburn may not only ruin your trip but can easily affect your health and well being. As this is a frequent error on many travelers parts, be sure you pay attention to protection your skin and avoid having issues when you next travel.

Other health related topics that you will need to research before you go for your health and safety include issues regarding animals in the area which you may not be used to, insects and even diseases which may be present and require vaccinations before you travel. You can learn about topics such as this on the government website or from those who live or who have visited these destinations before.

Your safety is ultimately in your hands when you travel. It is up to you to become a more informed traveler and know what to expect so you can help protect yourself. Do your part, and pay attention to rules and regulations in place for your safety and make the most of your vacation.

Making The Most Of Your Journeys A Review From Tradewinds Travel Club

Where you go is dependent on a number of factors from money to interests and time off, however, for most people, a vacation means a trip far from home. As wonderful as it is for us to get far away from the hassles of everyday life and journey to a tropical paradise or perhaps a cruise ship or a mountain top, sometimes a vacation can be just as special nearby.

Often, we can forget that our homes and the nearby areas around us have so much to offer. For the travelers who visit our states and cities each year from long distances, they look at our homes as much more than we do, they look at our homes as an escape. We look at our cities and towns and even our own state as the place that we would want to escape from and may not take the time to really appreciate all the area truly has to offer. What we need to remember is that it is not how far away we travel that makes our vacation special, it is how we truly appreciate it and what we do with the time that makes it spectacular.

The Big City

If you live in any of the worlds large cities, it may be easy for you to forget about the many wonderful sights and activities offered and just remember the price for the “tourist related attractions”. For example, if you live in New York, Chicago or even London, you may be annoyed by the throngs of visitors who make this their destination for travel and simply head for the hills during your holiday. However, if you really stop and embrace all these top destinations for travel have to offer, you may see that they are popular for a reason. Arts and cultures, activities and events, you may not ever stopped to enjoy, you may find yourself missing out on.

Outside The City

If you are living in an area known for its mountains, beaches, lakes and rivers, you may be seeking a more cosmopolitan escape and simply drive past these stunning areas without even taking a moment to appreciate all it has to offer as well. We easily get used to our mountain views in the Denver area or even the stunning sunsets may become mundane if you let them in places such as California or any other states or countries known for their beach destinations. The object is for us to stop and remember that these places are unique and beautiful in their own way.

The point of this all is that your adventure can be near or far as long as you know how to appreciate it. Remember to take advantage of the unique and wonderful features of any area and you will learn to truly enjoy what the world has to offer you when you travel. Tradewinds Travel Club reviews tips and advice on travel to help you make the most of your experiences with us.

Ancient and Exotic Wonders In The Pacific

The Pacific is an area known for its amazing culture as well as its beauty. Home to some of the most famous of all destinations in the world for travelers today including the Hawaiian Islands and Tahiti, the Pacific has a history of habitation by a people known as the Polynesians and of course, European as well.

Though many Pacific Islands are quite easily accessible and have been for generations, affording many destinations to see and experience the history and beauty of these islands, others remained more difficult to see and visit until more recently including one island of particular historical important, Easter Island.

The island has a history of habituation dating back long before written history to a time thousands of years ago when history was just beginning for mankind. First recorded in recent history by the famous Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen on Easter Sunday in the 1700's, the island is technically named Paasch-Eyland which is Dutch for Easter Island, despite the fact that it goes by other names, specifically Rapa Nui by the native Polynesians.

A diverse and argued history, the island is believed to have been inhabited and dealing with life including famine, war, slave raids, colonialism and almost complete deforestation which would have eventually lead to the island's demise as a habitable location. Easter island is most famous for its gigantic statues which are believed to date back to these early settlers and their beliefs. Today many famous myths and legends in the Polynesian culture are believed to be part of this culture including the Birdman cult and Makemake.

Travel To Rapa Nui

Visiting this island is much easier to do than it once was and in fact, tourism is the island's major economy today. Travel is regularly accessible by commercial air service today despite its distance from everywhere.

Once you arrive, the small size of the island makes getting around quite simple logistically. Car rentals and bikes are two ways to get around but considering the terrain, most travelers choose to rent scooters, cars or jeeps.

When visiting the island, the first stop must be the Moai for which the island is best known, but that is not all. The entire coastline is covered with history and archaeological sites are abundant. In addition, the natural wonders of this ancient volcanic island offer amazing sights to behold as well. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and common resort activities are also popular here as well, leaving you many options for exploring this beautiful and ancient world.

Take the time to explore the ancient wonders, history and beauty of the world around you and enhance your life.

Top Family Travel Tips

We all choose to or are, as children, forced to travel with our families. From going to grandmas house to camping in the Grand Canyon or perhaps, wandering the streets of Calcutta, there will be a point when you and your family travel. As adults, it is our job to make this experience fun as well as educational for ourselves as well as our children. Travel is an obvious way to make children more aware of a larger world as well as offering them a look at history and culture of their own family and the world around.

We have all seen the weary travelers with their screaming children in tow wandering through the airport wondering why they ever left the house to begin with. It is our job for our own well being and the comfort of those around us as well, to know what to do to avoid this scenario. When next you travel with your children, consider these tips before you travel and see if you can enjoy your family vacation a little more.

Educate and Inform – Before you even set foot outside the door on your way, make sure that you consider how much the next while will impact your children on all levels. Crowds, noises and sights they have never seen or experienced, these are all likely to cause any kid to get shy and scared. Instead of diving in head first, talk to your kids about what to expect from the airport and your final destination.

Consider the needs of your children – Sitting still is hard enough for us as adults, remember your childrens needs when you travel. Bring plenty of activities for the kids to do while you travel, you will not regret it. In addition, remember that your kids ears are often sensitive especially in regards to take offs and landings. If you children are adversely affected by pressure, consider buying them ear plugs for this purpose to help ensure a smoother take off.

Education can be fun – There is no reason that a vacation can not be fun and educational. Consider doing things that will offer you and your children an educational experience as well. We are never to young or old to learn, why not all learn something together?

Enjoy – This is the most improvement tip we can offer. Your children are your most precious gift. Consider every minute that you have together a gift and consider that this time is special for all of you, make it count.

How To Avoid Becoming A Target

For obvious reasons, most criminals and scam artists around the world are after your money. So, by default, the more obvious it is that you are not comfortable in an area and the more obvious your money is, the more likely you are to become a target. In order to avoid becoming the easy target, it is important that you are first of all, aware of your surroundings, and second of all smart about your valuables including money, jewelry and other important things on your person including your travel papers.

Below are a few of the most basic tips and some words of advice to help you do just this. Avoid issues when you travel by knowing what to expect and avoiding situations before they happen.

No Back Pockets - this is the first place a pickpocket will go for your wallet. Instead of making it an easy target, just avoid the back pocket all together.

No Fanny Packs - not smart looking and not a good idea. Again you may as well paint a sign that says "rob me" if you carry one of these.

No Expensive Jewelry - the more you bling the more you can expect to be robbed. Leave it at home for many reasons. In addition to making yourself an obvious target, if you are carrying it in your luggage and it gets lost, you may not recoup your losses as their is a cap on the amount you can be reimbursed for your bags.

Divide And Conquer - carrying all your papers and money in one spot is never a good idea. If you get robbed, you will then lose it all. Instead, divide your goods up in different areas including your sock, a body wallet or other hidden areas and leave items you do not need in a safe place not on your person.

If you are wise when you travel, you can avoid many of the most common issues and complaints about travel including losing your money and becoming a target. Be smart and pay attention to little ways you can help avoid these issues and make the most of your vacations.

While many people look to escape the winter weather in the Eastern states, spring brings about a whole new group of travelers to the area. As the temperatures rise and the east begins to thaw, the birds begin to return, the sun begins to shine once again and the millions and millions of maple trees throughout the region begin springing back into life, no pun intended.

Drawing visitors by the thousands, states including Vermont, Maine, Michigan and Virginia are just a few that cater to the sugar crowd. In the good years, visitors can expect to see fun events and activities which include tapping demonstrations, discussions about area history and the native American tribes who used the sugar and sap from these and other species of trees in the U.S. and in Canada and even experience a taste of the life of first European settlers depending on which festival you visit.

Some of this years top festivals include:

The Vermont Maple Festival – Taking place in St Albans Vermont, this festival is in its 46th year and anticipates over 50,000 visitors over the three day festival. Dates for this years festival are April 27th - 29th.
