Ancient and Exotic Wonders In The Pacific

The Pacific is an area known for its amazing culture as well as its beauty. Home to some of the most famous of all destinations in the world for travelers today including the Hawaiian Islands and Tahiti, the Pacific has a history of habitation by a people known as the Polynesians and of course, European as well.

Though many Pacific Islands are quite easily accessible and have been for generations, affording many destinations to see and experience the history and beauty of these islands, others remained more difficult to see and visit until more recently including one island of particular historical important, Easter Island.

The island has a history of habituation dating back long before written history to a time thousands of years ago when history was just beginning for mankind. First recorded in recent history by the famous Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen on Easter Sunday in the 1700's, the island is technically named Paasch-Eyland which is Dutch for Easter Island, despite the fact that it goes by other names, specifically Rapa Nui by the native Polynesians.

A diverse and argued history, the island is believed to have been inhabited and dealing with life including famine, war, slave raids, colonialism and almost complete deforestation which would have eventually lead to the island's demise as a habitable location. Easter island is most famous for its gigantic statues which are believed to date back to these early settlers and their beliefs. Today many famous myths and legends in the Polynesian culture are believed to be part of this culture including the Birdman cult and Makemake.

Travel To Rapa Nui

Visiting this island is much easier to do than it once was and in fact, tourism is the island's major economy today. Travel is regularly accessible by commercial air service today despite its distance from everywhere.

Once you arrive, the small size of the island makes getting around quite simple logistically. Car rentals and bikes are two ways to get around but considering the terrain, most travelers choose to rent scooters, cars or jeeps.

When visiting the island, the first stop must be the Moai for which the island is best known, but that is not all. The entire coastline is covered with history and archaeological sites are abundant. In addition, the natural wonders of this ancient volcanic island offer amazing sights to behold as well. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and common resort activities are also popular here as well, leaving you many options for exploring this beautiful and ancient world.

Take the time to explore the ancient wonders, history and beauty of the world around you and enhance your life.

Top Family Travel Tips

We all choose to or are, as children, forced to travel with our families. From going to grandmas house to camping in the Grand Canyon or perhaps, wandering the streets of Calcutta, there will be a point when you and your family travel. As adults, it is our job to make this experience fun as well as educational for ourselves as well as our children. Travel is an obvious way to make children more aware of a larger world as well as offering them a look at history and culture of their own family and the world around.

We have all seen the weary travelers with their screaming children in tow wandering through the airport wondering why they ever left the house to begin with. It is our job for our own well being and the comfort of those around us as well, to know what to do to avoid this scenario. When next you travel with your children, consider these tips before you travel and see if you can enjoy your family vacation a little more.

Educate and Inform – Before you even set foot outside the door on your way, make sure that you consider how much the next while will impact your children on all levels. Crowds, noises and sights they have never seen or experienced, these are all likely to cause any kid to get shy and scared. Instead of diving in head first, talk to your kids about what to expect from the airport and your final destination.

Consider the needs of your children – Sitting still is hard enough for us as adults, remember your childrens needs when you travel. Bring plenty of activities for the kids to do while you travel, you will not regret it. In addition, remember that your kids ears are often sensitive especially in regards to take offs and landings. If you children are adversely affected by pressure, consider buying them ear plugs for this purpose to help ensure a smoother take off.

Education can be fun – There is no reason that a vacation can not be fun and educational. Consider doing things that will offer you and your children an educational experience as well. We are never to young or old to learn, why not all learn something together?

Enjoy – This is the most improvement tip we can offer. Your children are your most precious gift. Consider every minute that you have together a gift and consider that this time is special for all of you, make it count.

How To Avoid Becoming A Target

For obvious reasons, most criminals and scam artists around the world are after your money. So, by default, the more obvious it is that you are not comfortable in an area and the more obvious your money is, the more likely you are to become a target. In order to avoid becoming the easy target, it is important that you are first of all, aware of your surroundings, and second of all smart about your valuables including money, jewelry and other important things on your person including your travel papers.

Below are a few of the most basic tips and some words of advice to help you do just this. Avoid issues when you travel by knowing what to expect and avoiding situations before they happen.

No Back Pockets - this is the first place a pickpocket will go for your wallet. Instead of making it an easy target, just avoid the back pocket all together.

No Fanny Packs - not smart looking and not a good idea. Again you may as well paint a sign that says "rob me" if you carry one of these.

No Expensive Jewelry - the more you bling the more you can expect to be robbed. Leave it at home for many reasons. In addition to making yourself an obvious target, if you are carrying it in your luggage and it gets lost, you may not recoup your losses as their is a cap on the amount you can be reimbursed for your bags.

Divide And Conquer - carrying all your papers and money in one spot is never a good idea. If you get robbed, you will then lose it all. Instead, divide your goods up in different areas including your sock, a body wallet or other hidden areas and leave items you do not need in a safe place not on your person.

If you are wise when you travel, you can avoid many of the most common issues and complaints about travel including losing your money and becoming a target. Be smart and pay attention to little ways you can help avoid these issues and make the most of your vacations.
