June 9th 2012 is National
Get Outdoors Day, and offers you the perfect reason to get out and
enjoy the beautiful outdoors for free or nearly free throughout the
United States. Officially the 5th annual, federal
agencies, nonprofit organizations and recreational organizations are
getting together to encourage healthy and active fun for the family
in the great outdoors. Traditional and non traditional events and
activities for the whole family will be found throughout the country.
Events and activities may include fishing, geocaching, camping, and
other events including EchO events which will also occur throughout
the summer.
A day dedicated to the same beliefs of
the group known as the American Recreation Coalition, this day is
just one more way to encourage our youth to take advantage of all
that nature has to offer. Celebrating our state and national parks,
recreation areas, forests, public lands and waters and all that each
has to offer us is the goal.
Even if you are not in an area offering
specific events and activities, you can certainly find plenty to do
in the outdoors this and any other day of the year.
Ways You Can Enjoy The Day
- Visit a national park for free
- Visit a city park
- Find out what your city is offering for activities
- Check out your state parks activities for the day
- Go camping
- Go swimming
- Take a walk
- Take a bike ride
