Ancient and Exotic Wonders In The Pacific

The Pacific is an area known for its amazing culture as well as its beauty. Home to some of the most famous of all destinations in the world for travelers today including the Hawaiian Islands and Tahiti, the Pacific has a history of habitation by a people known as the Polynesians and of course, European as well.

Though many Pacific Islands are quite easily accessible and have been for generations, affording many destinations to see and experience the history and beauty of these islands, others remained more difficult to see and visit until more recently including one island of particular historical important, Easter Island.

The island has a history of habituation dating back long before written history to a time thousands of years ago when history was just beginning for mankind. First recorded in recent history by the famous Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen on Easter Sunday in the 1700's, the island is technically named Paasch-Eyland which is Dutch for Easter Island, despite the fact that it goes by other names, specifically Rapa Nui by the native Polynesians.

A diverse and argued history, the island is believed to have been inhabited and dealing with life including famine, war, slave raids, colonialism and almost complete deforestation which would have eventually lead to the island's demise as a habitable location. Easter island is most famous for its gigantic statues which are believed to date back to these early settlers and their beliefs. Today many famous myths and legends in the Polynesian culture are believed to be part of this culture including the Birdman cult and Makemake.

Travel To Rapa Nui

Visiting this island is much easier to do than it once was and in fact, tourism is the island's major economy today. Travel is regularly accessible by commercial air service today despite its distance from everywhere.

Once you arrive, the small size of the island makes getting around quite simple logistically. Car rentals and bikes are two ways to get around but considering the terrain, most travelers choose to rent scooters, cars or jeeps.

When visiting the island, the first stop must be the Moai for which the island is best known, but that is not all. The entire coastline is covered with history and archaeological sites are abundant. In addition, the natural wonders of this ancient volcanic island offer amazing sights to behold as well. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and common resort activities are also popular here as well, leaving you many options for exploring this beautiful and ancient world.

Take the time to explore the ancient wonders, history and beauty of the world around you and enhance your life.
